Feng Shui is the traditional Chinese art of geomancy, the placement and arrangement of space and is based on calculating the balance of qi or chi, interactions between the five elements, yin and yang and other factors.

The retention or dissipation of qi is believed to affect the health, wealth, energy level, luck and many other aspects of the occupants of the space. Color, shape and the physical location of each item in a space affects the flow of qi by slowing it down, redirecting it or accelerating it. This directly affects the energy level of the occupants. Feng shui is said to be a form of qi divination.

Water makes wood grow so it creates more wood energy. Wood feeds fire. Fire creates earth. Earth gives forth metal. Metal causes water to condense. This is what is called the creative cycle. If one goes through the elements in a reverse order, they reduce the energy or quality. A stronger cycle is the controlling cycle where an element controls another. Water doses a fire. Fire melts metal. Metal cuts wood. Wood breaks through earth. Earth muddies and dams water.
